What I got, as a user was more confused than when I started because now there are like 1,180 different eBook creation platforms to choose from.
Okay, I’m exaggerating, but we do know there are at least 22 of the best eBook software programs somewhere.
Now I had to decide which one I thought was going to be the easiest tool to use.
So, before you go searching and come across what I did; confusion.

The answer is yes.
And I’ve found it and used it to create 3 eBooks and self-published them on Amazon.

But before we do that, as always there is more to things than we know because nothing can ever be simple.
What is Self-Publishing?
Self-publishing just means you’re not using a book publisher.
You control everything.
How Do You Get Self-Published on Amazon?
There is a process:
- After writing, formatting, and editing, it will need to be exported to Amazon’s Kindle Create Software program.
- Kindle Create will export your manuscript into two formats: Kindle Package Format (KPF), which is the format preferred for Kindle eBooks and print, and then EPUB.
- Amazon’s Kindle Create Software Program will set the table of contents, allow you to set your Alt Text, and let you see what the final book will look like on different devices.
- After exporting to the Kindle Create software, it will then need to be uploaded to Kindle Direct Publishing and this is the final step that gets your eBook out there on Amazon.
But you will have to through Kindle Direct Publishing to get the Kindle Direct Software.
So, the order for self-publishing on Amazon after your eBook is completed would be:
- Write, format, and edit your manuscript
- Kindle Direct Publishing sign-up
- Kindle Create Software upload
- Back to Kindle Direct Publishing to upload on Amazon and self-publish

In total, after reading all those posts, I tried 7 different platforms to write my eBook on, and 4 of them were paid.
Big waste of time and money.
Even the creator tool that said it was the easiest platform, wasn’t easy at all, it was just easier than the rest.
And after all that, I ended up using a free program that I’ve had all along to create my amazing books.
I could have even created my ebook cover but I used a different free platform for that.
First Step to Creating Your Amazon eBook Before Self-Publishing
Write your manuscript.
That’s it, just head to Word and write.
I found this to be the best and easiest file format to use.
I did try Google Docs as a file format and if you like Google Docs then use it, but I prefer Word.
The format was easier to set.
- Open a Word Document, and give it a title, no one will see this title but you, Kindle Create and Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).
